Recapture Flyer

Eating Disorder Awareness Week

NHS Scotland are very excited to announce plans for Eating Disorder Awareness Week (20-26 February 2012) in Scotland . Our plans are all youth led and generated by young people in Scotland with experience of eating disorders.
As you will see from the flyer attached, our plans include a photography project where we'd like as many 14-25 year olds in Scotland to be involved. The project is funded by the Scottish Government and supported by Young Scot. It gives young people with any experience of eating disorders the opportunity to take a photograph of what recovery means to them, and submit it with a sentence explaining why. It is hoped these will be exhibited in the Scottish Parliament, with the opportunity for the exhibition to be displayed in other locations after this. The closing date for submissions is 20th January 2011.

Details can be found at:-

www.youngscotextra.org/re-capture

and if you have any questions please contact us on

re-capture@youngscot.org

Click and download the Submission form below, Fill it in and send to the address on the form.

Your Choice: Smoke Free Homes and Cars Lanarkshire

Want to help make a real impact on the health of children and babies in our communities?

Cambuslang and Rutherglen Community Health Initiative are part of a Lanarkshire wide campaign to encourage Smoke Free Homes and Cars.

We aim to protect children from the harmful effects of second hand smoke, by encouraging parents/grandparents/carers to make simple changes such as:

§  I choose not to smoke in front of my children

§  I choose never to smoke in my child’s bedroom

§  I choose to have a smoke free home

§  I choose to smoke in one room only

§  I choose to have a smoke free car

As well as protecting children (and pets!), it can also mean brighter, cleaner, fresher homes and cars and often gives smokers the motivation they need to quit!

Volunteers will be working in local primary schools and nurseries, to provide parents, carers and grandparents with information about the benefits of smoke free homes. They will encourage people to make changes and provide ongoing support to help them maintain them. In addition, families can access home fire safety visits and, if they decide to quit smoking, local stop smoking support can be arranged.

To find out more, click below to download Smoke Free Homes Sign Up Leaflet, or to find out how you can Volunteer to support the project.

Why not hire our "Smoothie Bike"

The Healthy Happy Shake Machine is a Smoothie Bike from CHI. One of few smoothie bikes based in Scotland, its an exercise bike and smoothie maker all in one! It’s the pedal powered blender that makes a delicious smoothie. The smoothie bike is an innovative resource. A standard pedal bike has been fitted to a stand, so it is stationary. Pedaling the bike powers the blender on the back. Add your favourite fruits, and hey presto – you make a smoothie!

We are offering the bike to local groups interested in hiring it for a day, a week or even longer. We deliver free to anywhere in Cambuslang and Rutherglen but will also deliver to other areas of the country for a charge.

If you are interested in hiring the bike for your events, please contact us on 0141 646 0123      .

If you would like more information on hiring the smoothie bike please click on the poster on the left and follow the links. Happy Smoothie making.
