Creating Hope In Our Community

Creating Hope makes me #healthynhappy

Healthy n Happy and CamGlen Radio are ‘Creating Hope’—a project dedicated to promoting positive mental health and suicide prevention through creative, engaging and impactful activities.

You can be a part of this vital movement that addresses local need in Cambuslang and Rutherglen - and can make a huge difference to you and the lives of those around you.

We are now delighted to be in our second year of funding for our Creating Hope In Our Community campaign. This was kick-started with the exclusive viewing of the moving, uplifting and hopeful film 'The Low Road', which we jointly hosted with Cruse Scotland. This film told the story of Ellie - guilt-ridden and heart broken at the suicide of her best friend at university, she hikes the Highlands of Scotland to find salvation amongst some of Scotland's most spectacular scenery. Utilising the power of the wilderness to enhance the emotional storytelling of Ellie’s inward journey, she is transformed – being led on a road to recovery from her time in nature. This was followed by a fantastic Q&A with the film's Director and Producer.

Creating Hope in Our Community Event:

Following the huge success of our first event last November, we're delighted to hold a second one, on Friday 13 June, 10am-1pm, at Number 18, Rutherglen.

This is to continue discussions around mental health support in CamGlen. Connect, share experiences and explore how we can collectively improve mental well-being and suicide prevention.

We will also be joined by Louise McSharry from Penumbra's Self-Harm Network, who will deliver a workshop on self-harm and how to support someone who has issues with self-harm. We will host a Q&A session with Louise, to give you a chance to find out more about this very important topic. More info and register here

Further Training Courses:

Earlier this year we ran a free ASIST workshop (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) - plus Mental Health First Aid workshops. Participants found both of these extremely informative and useful.

Further training events are being planned, so watch this space for more details - and find out how you can get involved in #CreatingHopeInOurCommunity.
