Creating Hope In Our Community
Creating Hope makes me #healthynhappy
Healthy n Happy and CamGlen Radio are Creating Hope, a project that promotes positive mental health and suicide prevention through creative, engaging and impactful activities.
You can be part of this vital movement that responds to local need in Cambuslang and Rutherglen, and make a real difference to yourself and the people around you.
Now in its third year, our Creating Hope In Our Community campaign is continuing to raise awareness of local mental health services, and as part of our series of podcasts we have interviewed incredible groups such SANDS, Lanarkshire Links, and SAOIRSE with more to come too.
We are also pleased to announce our brand new Wanna Talk workshop. This is a two hour workshop designed to help learners:
-
Understand the signs of poor mental health in others
-
How to become a better active listener
-
Where to turn to if someone tells you they are feeling suicidal
This course would be great for people who are feeling apprehensive or perhaps don't have time for the 12-hour Scottish Mental Health First Aid course
We are very grateful to VASLan for awarding us with the Community Mental Health and Wellbeing funding which allows us to continue to deliver this project which we believe will improve the overall wellbeing of local people.

Creating Hope In Our Community Podcasts
The Creating Hope In Our Community podcast series brings together people who are working in and care deeply around improving mental health and our approach to suicide prevention. Discussion that look at what work is being done to support us through the challenges that many of us are facing. Through open and thoughtful conversations, we explore ways to strengthen our community and inspire hope for a better, more connected future.

Throughout the Creating Hope In Our Community project, we have been interviewing local and national organisations such as Bipolar Scotland, Love & Harmony / The Hive, Chris's House, Stigma Free Lanarkshire, Lanarkshire Links, and many more.
We've covered all sorts of topics, such as stigma, discrimination, mental health support, and much more.
To hear the podcasts, simply go to CamGlen Radio's website, or search for Creating Hope In Our Community on streaming services such as Spotify, Amazon, Apple, and YouTube.

Tune into Mental Health Radio Programmes
Mental health and suicide prevention organisations can contribute to the creation of radio content and live interviews on CamGlen Radio, to help raise awareness of local services and opportunities across the area.
Gain valuable skills in mental health and suicide first aid by participating in free events and training programmes, or tuning into bite-size radio infomercials.
We believe that by giving local people the skills to talk about serious mental health issues, then we can all play a part in challenging suicide and addressing poor mental health before it becomes a serious issue.
Mental health stigma is still a huge barrier to people struggling with their mental health. The more opportunities that local people have to improve their knowledge of mental health, then the less power stigma will have over our lives.
Further Training Courses:
Coming up later this year, we have two Self-Harm awareness courses. Run by the Self-Harm Network, learners will develop an in-depth knowledge of self-harm, why people do it, and how best to support someone who self-harms
The first of the two courses is at 10 AM on the 2nd of September 2026 in our Number 18 Venue. The other course takes place on the 25th of November, the same time and venue as above.
We also have more ASIST courses coming up at the Bothy later on this year. Run by Jenny Hutton from NHS Lanarkshire and Lynda o'Malley from Care and Connect Training. These courses will take place on the 22nd and 23rd of October with another course taking place on the 18th and 19th of February. Both courses will take place at the Bothy in Cuningar Loop.
The Creating Hope In Our Community campaign is funded by the Community Mental Health and Wellbeing Fund (awarded to us by VASLan) which allows us to run this course for free for people who live or work in the local area.
We also have provisional courses lined up for throughout the year. Put yourself on the waiting list here.
