One of the themes that the Community Health Initiative is involved with is that of Substance Misuse. More specifically we work on alcohol awareness. The Alcohol Prevention and Education programme came into being in 2004. “Tell Us About Alcohol”, a needs assessment for Cambuslang and Rutherglen was researched over the first 18 months as well as partnerships and programme promotion being developed.

Since then the programme has grown with a team of 9 (Meet the current team here). This allows us to work with more groups within the community. An evaluation report was produced in 2008 summarising the last 4 years of the project (See copy of evaluation here).

We do not work with individuals who have chronic alcohol issues. We are a prevention and education programme who works with the community and local people to tackle alcohol issues within their local area. We raise awareness and inform local people by offering:

  •   Information (e.g. resources, signposting)
  •   Presentations
  •   Workshops
  •   Training
  •   Resources (e.g. leaflets, posters)

We work with local schools, youth organisations, workplaces and other organisations. If you are looking for any resources or would like us to deliver some sessions or training then please do not hesitate to get in touch with Veronica MacLeod on 0141 646 0123 or via the alcohol enquiry form.
