Cambuslang and Rutherglen Community Health Initiative
The Alcohol Prevention and Education Project is based at the Community Health Initiative, Whitlawburn. Along with Strathclyde Police they are involved in the planning and delivery of the days. For more information about the project click here.
They lead workshops for the Primary 6 and Secondary 1 pupils promoting safe and responsible drinking. As with the other workshops they aim to provide the young people with sound information to allow them to make their own, sensible and informed choices when they are faced with the decision over whether or not to drink alcohol.
Primary 6 Workshop
The workshop shows the different types of alcohol that they may encounter as well as highlighting how difficult it can be to tell the difference between some types of alcohol and soft drinks. This allows the opportunity to focus on difficulties in saying no to some people - especially if those people are your "friends".

Secondary 1 Workshop
This workshop builds on previous learning the pupils will have gained through attending "It's Your Choice" in Primary 6 and additional work within the schools during Primary 7 and Secondary 1 years. The aim of the workshop is to highlight the different strengths of alcohol as well as providing information about sensible drinking guidelines and units. The workshop is kept very hands on and practical to show how difficult it is to be aware of units (many adults struggle with understanding this too). By using bottles, water and food colouring it can be a more visual way of learning.
