FREE ACCREDITED TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES:

Camglen Radio and the Community Health Initiative have teamed up with North Glasgow College to offer residents of Cambuslang and Rutherglen the opportunity to study a new and exciting course in Radio Production.

You will learn everything from script writing & microphone techniques to basic audio editing, so by the end of the course you will have the knowledge and the confidence to produce your own Radio Programmes. You will also have the opportunity to become part of Camglen radio’s broadcast team!

Students will have access to state of the art radio broadcast equipment and professional software during the course which will be held in the Whitlawburn Community Resource Centre and in Camglen radio studios in Arran Tower. The duration of the course is flexible and will be set to meet the needs of students.

There is no need for previous experience in radio or media, all you require is an interest in the subject and we will do the rest. As this is a Scottish Qualifications Authority course (SQA LEVEL 5) the training can be used towards further study or help students access exciting volunteering opportunities.

The next course will start on 28th September and has limited places so get in touch to get involved!

Camglen radio is the Community radio station for Cambuslang, Rutherglen and surrounding areas.

We currently broadcast on FM for 28 days every 6 months, usually in June and across November - December.  We also broadcast online through our website www.camglenradio.org during these times.

We aim to promote health in a broad sense by providing a wide range of opportunities for local volunteers and by doing our best to involve the whole community in our broadcasts, which we feel successfully reflects the richness and diversity of the area.

Based in the heart of Whitlawburn in our purpose built studios, Camglen radio broadcasts health messages, promotes local organisations, community groups, voluntary sector organisations and statutory sector services to help get local information out to the local communities. We regularly feature local unsigned (and sometimes signed!) local artists, drama groups and bands to help showcase their material, with the use of our recording studios.

We currently work with 21 local schools, engaging with 10 pupils from each school per broadcast, providing them with all the skills they need to research, write, edit, produce and present radio shows - and then they live go on air!

Local volunteers are the life-blood of the station, and by that we mean that they take responsibility for almost everything at the station! First and foremost we have our budding presenters - whose musical tastes vary from head banging heavy metal to easy listening hits from yesteryear and everything in between; we have male and female presenters, age 8 to 80!

Other equally important volunteer roles at the station include:

  • Sound engineers
  • Marketing assistants
  • Website management
  • Trainers
  • Studio workers
  • Supervisors
  • Music library operators
  • Committee
  • Roadshow ‘roadies‘ and presenters
  • ...and lots more

All of our volunteers are fully trained and supported to enable them to fulfil their roles at the station. If you* are interested in joining the Camglen radio team please contact Caroline. Camglen radio also provides training and consultancy for external organisations, and a cost effective recording studio for bands - please get in touch for more information!

Camglen radio helps make Cambuslang and Rutherglen Healthier and Happier..

If you have thing for radio we have a thing for you!
