Working with you to make Cambuslang and Rutherglen healthier and happier for all

Content

CHI is involved in many different things, all of which come under one or more of the headings of our 6 themes listed below.

•Volunteering

Communication, Information and Dialogue

•Fitness and Exercise

•Diet and Healthy Eating

•Substance Misuse

•Mental & Emotional Health & Well-Being

All these themes and programmes are linked, for instance we wouldn't have such a successful volunteering program without opportunities in areas like Camglen radio station, the community gardens, and the Fruit Barras.

CHI uses a community development approach to health improvement.

We work with people from the local communities of Cambuslang and Rutherglen.

The areas of work we undertake are based on needs that have been identified through extensive work with stakeholders.

We seek to complement and add to existing local strategies and services.

CHI adopts a social model of health to understand and respond to local health issues and needs.

We aim to provide local people with opportunities to take an active part in ensuring their own, their family's and their community's health and wellbeing.

CHI gets recognition in the Scottish Parliament

James Kelly MSP for Glasgow Rutherglen and Robert Brown MSP for Glasgow region both recently introduced a motion in the Scottish Parliament highlighting the work and contribution that the Community Health Initiative makes to the local community. In his motion Mr. Kelly congratulated us for securing additional funding to enable us to extend the services we provide to Cambuslang and Rutherglen. In his motion Mr. Brown congratulated the work of the Alcohol Prevention and Education Programme. Each of these motions were supported by a cross section of MSPs within parliament. Well done to all our Volunteers, Board Members and Staff for all your hard work!
